Adele's Restaurant & Lounge

Adele's Restaurant & Lounge Carson City NV

Family owned and operated since 1977, Adele's has set the standard for fine dining in Northern Nevada. While keeping its rich tradition of fabulous food alive, owners Charlie and Karen Abowd continue to bring new ideas and innovation to the table.

Adele's is located in one of the few remaining Second Empire-style buildings in Carson City. An historic landmark, the house was built in 1875 and owned by M.A. Murphy, a Nevada Attorney General and Supreme Court Justice. That era has been preserved in the restaurant's interior, which has the gracious feel of a Victorian parlor. Rooms in the home are decorated with Victorian-style furnishings, creating cozy nooks for intimate dining.

With a focus on organic, sustainable and local ingredients, Adele’s offers a varied menu of fresh seafood, steaks and pasta. Chef Charlie’s love of fresh seafood is evident on his menus, which regularly feature creative dishes based on the best seafood available. A variety of other dishes, such as ahi tuna, duck and lamb, frequent the legendary Daily Specials menus.

More casual dining is offered in the lounge, with its antique bar and overstuffed furniture. The lounge menu features crispy thin crust pizzas, fresh salads and a wide selection of innovative appetizers, which can be enjoyed in the bar or outside on the veranda.

Adele’s also offers an award winning wine list. The extensive list, which has been honored by Wine Spectator magazine, includes more than 400 choices. You’ll find great wines from both large and small boutique wineries.

Charlie Abowd's culinary skills are known well beyond Carson City. He was invited to cook at the legendary James Beard House in New York City, a huge honor. The restaurant is also a winner of the prestigious DiRona Award.

Adele’s hosts music and art events year round. Charlie and Karen are longtime community supporters and believe the restaurant should play an active role in the local arts community.

Locally or Family Owned Business Notes

Adele's has been family owned and operated since Paul and Adele Abowd opened it in 1977. The current owners are Paul and Adele's son, Charlie, with his wife Karen, Carson City residents since 1980.

Chef and owner Charlie Abowd’s passion for food began at an early age; as a fourth-generation chef, he virtually grew up in a restaurant. Charlie’s philosophy about food is simple: use only the best ingredients. To him, that means organic, hormone-free beef, chicken and lamb, as well the finest sustainable seafood. Organic and locally grown produce is a mainstay on his menus; Charlie is an avid backer of Carson City’s Farmer’s Markets and buys much of his produce from nearby farms.

Charlie’s love of good food and wine is almost matched by his love of music and art, and he enjoys using the restaurant as showcase for the arts. He believes that enjoying good food, music and the arts are key to enjoying life.

Karen Abowd’s passion for food is matched only by her passion for helping the community; she’s the driving force behind many Carson City projects. She’s also breaking new ground with the Greenhouse Project. The completely self-sustaining greenhouse will be the first of its kind in Nevada, and will allow local children to tend gardens and in the process learn about sustainable and organic farming – and about making healthy food choices. The produce they grow will then help feed local families.

Jen wrote on December 20, 2010: I love Adele's! What a perfect inclusion for Sierra Nevada Geotourism. You will often see Charlie shopping at the local farmers markets and he's been sourcing produce locally since before it was trendy. It certainly doesn't hurt that the food is incredible, the service out of this world and the atmosphere unmatched.
