Set in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley's grape growing region - one of California's scenic gems - sits Amador Flower Farm. Owners, Ken and Jeanne Deaver, are well known around the region as one of the valley's larger wine grape producers. Ken’s family has grown grapes in this valley for over 150 years.

They have also created an incredible foothill garden specializing in daylilies with over 1,000 different varieties available for sale. Daylilies have been referred to as the "perfect perennial" because they have been adapted through hybridization to grow all over the world, including the midwest and its frozen winter ground, and Hawaii where the flowers bloom all year long. They are truly perfect for the Sierra Foothills of California because they love the hot summer sun like very few plants do! They are drought tolerant, relatively disease and pest free and come in sizes ranging from 1-11" flowers, 9" to 5' tall, and colors from near white to yellow, orange, red, pink, purple and many more.

The Deavers have been selling daylilies direct mail by catalog since 1992. In 1996 they opened this retail site and built four acres of demonstration gardens with different themes designed to show the flowers in a variety of settings.

Daylily lovers will delight in the historical garden that features all the Stout Medal Winners since 1950. The Stout Medal is the top prize offered each year for the most outstanding daylily.

The English Garden lies in the center in a formal pattern featuring unique and unusual perennials, many of which are available for purchase along with an assortment of grasses also seen in the gardens. The Amador Flower Farm nursery is worth the visit all by itself!

These interesting and diverse areas are placed against the backdrop of the Deaver's 30 year old Zinfandel vineyards and the rolling landscape of the Shenandoah Valley.

The beautiful gardens are maintained year-round, so there is always something wonderful to see. If you're lucky enough to visit in October, be sure and visit the Pumpkin Patch. You'll see Peter Pumpkin Eater's House set in the pumpkin patch filled with funny scarecrows created each year by the local 4Hers, and a hay tunnel that leads to the corn maze. Visit in November and December and you’ll be treated to hot cider and holiday treats while you wander through the gardens or visit the gift shop.

The entire grounds cover 14 acres and are designed for walking. Picnic tables are available under heritage oak trees and next to the pond.

After exploring the gardens, browse through the gift shop that features a wide variety of gardening items and statuary.

Visit the family's tasting room, Deaver Vineyards, while in the valley and take a bottle of something wonderful home with you.
