Located on Main Street in historic Sutter Creek, California, the American Exchange Hotel has opened its doors after 30 odd years! The hotel has been 100% revamped, remodeled and upgraded. The hotel has 25 rooms full of history, decorated in a restrained Gold Rush fashion with rustic wrought iron bed frames and distressed Empire style furniture.

The hotel was described by the 1897 Amador Record as, "elegantly furnished and fitted throughout...It is headquarters for all the stage lines." The parking area to the rear of the hotel used to be the hitching post area for teams and saddle horses, and the old saloon was operated under the name "Sutter Club." It also served as an office and stage stop for Adams & Company Express, one of the first express companies established in California, precedin Wells Fargo and Company.

Lodging Style and Amenities

Each room has a flat screen TV, telephone, wireless internet access and state -of-the-art heat and air conditioning. The second floor of the hotel has 10 rooms, each with a private bath. Extending up the oak wood staircase, the third floor has 15 rooms with four common bathrooms located in the center area and convenient to all the rooms. The lobby has an ornate coffered ceiling with recessed lighting.

The hotel houses the Twisted Fork restaurant serving lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday. The Bellotti's Lounge, located on the main floor, is newly decorated with stunning wood carvings. The "original" Bellotti bar has been moved downstairs to "The Annex", named for the original building established in 1858.
