Bear Valley Cross Country and Adventure Company lies nestled in the heart of the Central Sierra between the Mokelumne and Carson Iceberg Wilderness, located just off the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway, also known as Hwy 4. For over 30 years in the ski resort industry, Paul and Dianne Petersen share their knowledge and passion for both winter and summer sports and adventures with guests of Bear Valley Cross Country & Adventure Company. Their mission is to promote and offer quality year round, people-powered recreational opportunities to fellow outdoor enthusiasts. Paul is a 35 year veteran ski instructor, including 12 years on the Professional Ski Instructors of America National Team. He has been a leader in the cross country skiing industry for decades and has owned and operated Bear Valley Cross Country since 1979.

Directions:

From the Bay Area
Take 580 east to 205 east to 120 east to 99 north to 4 east and continue to Bear Valley.

From the Central Valley
Take 99 north or south to 4 east and continue to Bear Valley.

From Sacramento
Take 99 south to 12 east to 49 south to 4 east and continue to Bear Valley.

From Lake Tahoe / Reno
Winter: Take 80 west, 50 west, or 88 west from the greater Lake Tahoe basin, to 99 south to 4 east and continue to Bear Valley.
(Ebbetts Pass is closed in winter).
Summer: Take 4 west off of 88 at Woodfords and continue to Bear Valley.

Areas of Service and Expertise

During the winter season, Bear Valley Cross Country boasts an extensive trail system of over 3,000 acres.  Amenities include 35 meticulously groomed trails for track and skate skiing, and snowshoeing. In addition, there is a ski school, the Meadow Cafe, a complete rental, demo and retail facility, four trail side huts, picnic tables, park benches, two kids' trails, waxing hut, groomed downhill practice area, and a sledding/tubing facility. They also offer a variety of special events and races throughout the winter. With a 7,800 foot elevation and Sierra Nevada snow base, Bear Valley Cross Country usually opens mid-November and closes mid-April. Trails are open from 9am to 4:30pm daily.

Bear Valley Cross Country is open year round. As the weather gradually grows warmer, Bear Valley Cross Country converts to Bear Valley Adventure Company. With the new season comes a different range of recreational opportunities. During the summer season, Bear Valley Adventure Company is prepared with bike, flat water kayak and stand-up paddle board rentals, sales, and repair. There are also a variety of special events and races to indulge and take part in. Fishing and camping supplies, retail clothing and accessories, and a mini-mart ensure that your other recreational needs are taken care of.

Bear Valley Cross Country and Adventure Company provides visitors with an opportunity to participate in their favorite activities while getting to know the Sierra Nevada wilderness as more than a sports area but also as an environment that is always a wonder to explore whether it is by sled, snowshoe, bike, or kayak.
