The Big Creek General Store is located in the main square of the tiny town of Big Creek in the southern Sierra Nevada. It was established almost 100 years ago to serve the community of Big Creek that sprung up in response to the Southern California Edison Big Creek Hydroelectric Project, which would provide hydro power to much of Southern California. Over the years the Store has provided gas, groceries and a place to gather for the people of Big Creek. Today it is still a great place to pick up groceries, dry goods, a hot meal, get driving directions, or catch up on local news.
The Big Creek General Store is your quintessential small town store down to the wood stove that keeps it cozy in the winters. Any given day you are likely to see groups of locals gathering there to exchange gossip and discuss business as well as out-of-towners stopping of to pick up supplies before the hitting the back country. All the meals are homemade by long time resident and store proprietor, Malan Johnson. House specialties like tri-tip sliders on fresh baked garlic rolls and homemade ice cream and cobbler are enormously popular among locals. On a warm day, you can take your meal to the outside patio from which you can see waterfalls, and local landmarks, Kirkoff Dome and Sunset Rock. Tuesdays tend to be especially lively after the Historical Powerhouse Tours, visitors like to wind down with a beer and a hot lunch. Call ahead for daily specials.
Seasons Open: Year Round
The Big Creek General Store is wheel chair accessible.
This business is pet friendly. Pets can enjoy a bowl of beef flavored ice cream on the outdoor patio while their people enjoy a more traditionally flavored homemade desert at one of the picnic tables and enjoy the scenery.

Diane Ray wrote on April 30, 2011: I always look forward to the beginning of summer when the back roads surrounding Huntington Lake are open again and I can take a nice leisurely drive through the mountain side and enjoy the breath taking views. Big Creek General Store and its new owner are so welcoming and she is open to sharing a lot of history about the small community. A definite stop on the agenda.
