Camp Edison Campground is located on the western shores of the pristine Shaver Lake in the mixed conifer forest of the southern Sierra Nevada at an elevation of 5,400 feet. In 1963 the Southern California Edison Company constructed this beautiful 250 acre campground and picnic area. The objective was to share Shaver Lake’s natural resources and recreational opportunities with the general public. Over the years the campground has grown to 252 campsites. Twenty-five sites are open year round for those seeking a winter adventure in the outdoors.

This unique campground offers sites with electricity, free cable television in all sites, and limited high-speed WI-FI internet access. There are day use picnic sites, modern bathrooms, showers, Laundromats, and in the summer a marina, stables, and a general store. There are 3 volleyball courts, basketball court, and 2 horseshoe pits for visitors. There are also large group picnic areas that can be reserved. The picnic area and boat ramp are for our camper’s use as well as day use for the general public (with purchase of a parking permit). In 2003 Camp Edison was featured on the cover of Sunset Magazine in the Best Places to Camp issue.

During the summer months Camp Edison offers educational campfire talks and other programs hosted at the Chickaree amphitheater; and interpretive hikes along the nature trail with discussions about sustainable resource management, natural history, forestry, and wildlife. There are 35 plus miles of multi-use trails in and around the camp and lake area. Individuals enjoy horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, bird and animal watching, and fishing access on these trails. You can also pick up a Chipmunk Chatter newsletter to see the latest Camp Edison news, events, and learn fun facts about the area. The Museum of the Central Sierra is a short walk from the camp so there is opportunity to take part in some of their events or take a tour of the museum and get some local history.

For winter recreating there are twelve miles of Nordic ski trails marked by the Shaver Lake Volunteers.

Camp Edison and Edison Forestry have over 300 volunteers in environmental partnership programs such as adopt a cove, adopt a trail, wildlife monitoring, and the Shaver Lake Volunteers; who organize and conduct much of the trail and cove cleanup work throughout the Shaver Lake area.

Camp Edison conducts a recycling program throughout the campground where campers are encouraged to recycle and the proceeds go to local volunteer groups who do trail work, shoreline cleanup, and other local projects throughout the Shaver Lake area.
