Cheryl's Diner is located in the heart of Kernville, across from Circle Park. Cheryl Borthick, the owner of the aptly named Cheryl's Diner, has been found serving up delicious home style cooking for the past twenty six years. The friendly atmosphere at Cheryl’s is a product of home grown servers and cooks, where you will find three generations of Borthick’s working together to bring you great food and friendly service.
When Cheryl and her husband Lanny moved to the Kern River Valley thirty nine years ago, she had never had a job outside the home, much less owned a business. Her mother Nelda had lived in the valley for several years and owned a restaurant in Mt. Mesa. Cheryl had been in town for less than a couple of weeks when she received a call from her mother. Nelda needed help at her Mt. Mesa Restaurant. Next thing she knew, what started out as a part time job thirty nine years ago became a lifestyle when Cheryl opened her own restaurant in Kernville several years later.
Lanny started construction on the restaurant in 1984; they had a deal. Cheryl would not tell him how to build it, and he would not tell her how to run it. So far, that has worked just fine.
Cheryl's Diner truly is a family restaurant and they want their customers to be part of the family. So when you are thinking about that next meal out and you want it to be fun and pleasant, come visit Cheryl’s Diner located conveniently in the heart of Kernville in the southern Sierra Nevada.
Cheryl wears many hats when she is not taking care of business at the diner. She can be found singing her heart out with the Kern Valley Sweet Adelines, with which she has held the position of co-director for the past thirty seven years. She also directs the Mt. Mesa Church Choir and serves her community as the President of the Kernville Chamber of Commerce. As if that isn’t enough, Cheryl was voted Kern County's small business person of the year in 2011.
