Event Dates: May 05, 2012

Description of Event

Held the first Saturday in May every year, the Colfax Spring Green Festival is an educational event about sustainable practices in the local community that also includes an art and wine festival featuring local art and wines. The festival starts with the Garden Club’s Plant Sale of native plants at 8:00 am under the Gazebo at Main and Grass Valley Streets. Also starting at 8:00 am will be the E-Waste Collection drive-through at Tom’s Plaza located next to the Gazebo. People will be there to help unload your unwanted electronic equipment for recycling.

The Sierra Vista Community Center, located at 55 School Street, will feature vendors displaying the latest information on new products for exterior and interior building materials. There will also be vendors to show you ideas for composting, gardening, worm farms, alternative energy, solar stoves, water purification, clean air, garbage recycling, art and articles made from recycled objects, shop local, local bike maps, local recreation as well as better health and wellness to name a few. Fuel efficient automobiles can be viewed in the Center’s parking lot. There will be fun activities for the children in and around the Center throughout the day.

The Center will also have a demonstration of the upcoming biomass steam plant that will be replacing the old diesel plant that currently heats our community center. It will be fueled by wood chips collected by the county’s Fire Defense Program.

Out beyond the baseball diamond at the Center is Colfax’s Community Garden where you can see a demonstration garden presented by our local gardeners. A flower show with local live music will be at the Colfax Area Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center and Colfax Heritage Museum located at the train depot.

An Art and Wine Festival on Main Street features local artists, musicians, local wineries and hard cider. Buy a glass and visit our charming Main Street shops and restaurants for an evening of wine tasting.

The Spring Green Festival is an extension of the Colfax Spring Festival that started over three decades ago.  It is sponsored by Sierra Vista Community Center. In cooperation with the Colfax Area Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Merchants, Colfax Garden Club, Outfielder's Community Garden and Colfax Soroptimist.
