Comma Coffee

Comma Coffee

(Comma Coffee) n. the facilitation of communication and rejuvenation through relaxation or hibernation from the dot-com nation. It's a celebration of the population, and a justification for procrastination!

If life were a sentence... Comma Coffee would be the comma... the pause... the breath... the break between two thoughts. We lead such busy isolated lives, yet all the while longing for a sense of community. You will find that feeling here, in an atmosphere where everybody knows your name. Among comfy couches, books and games, chess, live music, dancing, poetry, and... of course great coffee and food, generations mingle, new friendships are formed, and old relationships are nurtured.

Comma Coffee's popular breakfast entrees include "eggs"clamation, an outstanding breakfast sandwich of two steamed eggs with basil pesto, nestled in a croissant with fresh spinach, red onion and melted provolone. For lunch or early dinner, choose a hearty deli sandwich, salad or the scrumptious "exhumation", homemade garlic basil pesto hummus on a platter with fresh spinach, red bell pepper rings, tomato, cucumber slices, toasted flat bread triangles, and seasonal fruit. In addition to its extensive coffee menu, Comma Coffee features great smoothies, such as "sunrise sensation", with banana, strawberry, non-fat yogurt, soy milk, grape nuts, and honey. Also offered are beer, wine and free WiFi in the comfortable, smoke-free environment.

Comma Coffee, with its Bohemian vibe, is a forum for a diversity of talent and artisitic expression. From World Dance Night to drum circles, to Open Mic Night to book signings, to The Backseat Gallery's exhibitions of work by regional artists, to thought-provoking conversation over a great cup of coffee, there is always something interesting happening here.

Seasons Open: Year-round

Price Style for this Establishment: Breakfast $4-$7, Lunch $7-$10

Locally or Family Owned Business Notes

A multi-talented artist who acts, sings, plays piano and creates art pieces found throughout Comma Coffee, June Joplin had the vision of opening a smoke-free coffee shop in Carson City on Nevada Day 2000. She strongly felt the need to draw people together to showcase talent and provide a hospitable atmosphere for conversation. When asked how Comma Coffee came to be, June looked around the shop lovingly as she replied, “I have always had a clear philosophy of what Comma Coffee was to be. This business is like a living being and reflects my philosophy and my heart from the moment I gave birth to it. Actually, I believe the 'magic' of Comma Coffee was born out of my willingness to be 'naked' before people... and my spirit, it seems, invited others to shed their armor, let down their guard, and get a little naked too. 'Real' human beings, with all the flaws and gifts, fears and joys that accompany this skin we live in, connecting, communing. A breeding ground for 'pay it forward' living. This was my life dream... and it has come true."
