Historic Cressman's General Store has been in operation since 1904. Originally serving those working in the booming logging industry, Cressman's was the half-way point in a long journey that began on the central valley floor and ended at approximately 9,000 feet elevation. Logging teams, powered by either horse, mule, or ox, would take advantage of the flat area at Cressman's to rest and water their teams before continuing up the mountain into the Sierra Nevada.
Today it is still a popular stopping point for travelers on their way to Shaver Lake, Huntington Lake and China Peak, our local ski resort. Cressman's rich history can be savored through the vintage photographs (many featuring the logging teams previously mentioned) and antiques that grace the walls in the newly restored relic.
Visitors and locals alike will enjoy a delicious selection of home baked items, fresh deli sandwiches, soups or even a beerock (a German dish which is very popular due to the German influence in the central valley).
If you're into shopping, the owners often open their 100 year old barn on weekends to reveal dozens of hand-crafted items from the surrounding area, including furniture, wood carvings, picture frames and much more, most from local crafters.
Travelers can pick up useful information regarding local activities and events as well as a complimentary local map.
Cressman's is currently owned by three Shaver Lake residents, and is open Monday through Saturday 7am to 7pm and on Sunday from 8am to 6pm.

Linda Sinks wrote on May 18, 2011: Keith has done a great job bringing this place back to life. Make sure you stop here on your way up or down the hill. It’s got a lot of history behind it. It has several shops. Make sure you see them all.
Diane Ray wrote on April 30, 2011: Cressman’s was once a local point of interest due to their welcoming and entertaining owners. It is now that way again and the improvements have only added to the allure. Try out their homemade deli sandwiches…..I cannot go a week without at least one.

The historic influence this store and location has had for the last 100+ years is amazing.The Shaver Flume constructed in 1893 went between near here, and horses, mules, oxen and automobiles watered here after climbing Tollhouse Grade in the early years.....A local treasure. Don’t miss it!
