Event Dates: May 12, 2012 - May 13, 2012
Celebrate 'Sweet Herbs, Lavender and Roses' at the Squaw Valley Herb Gardens the weekend after Mother's Day, May 14 or 15 from 12 pm to 3 pm, a tradition that began over 12 years ago and continues.
Artists Rosemary Nightingale & Tim Friesen began their work and love for the land in 1984. Established on near barren soil with a spectacular view of the southern Sierra Nevada, the gardens continue and thrive today. Located in the foothills at 1800' elevation they grow over 50 varieties of herbs and 8 varieties of lavender. Much of their five acres is in natural habitat that includes a meadow and creek. Cultivated herb gardens, lavender hillside, and terraced vegetable gardens surround their art studio, gift shop, organic herb nursery and private home.
Lavendar is a common, native wild plant found in meadows and moist places between 5,000 and 12,000 feet throughout the Sierra Nevada.
Here, you can immerse yourself in nature's beauty and aromas on a guided walk. Through history and folklore you'll discover these fascinating plants and how to grow and use them. Seated amidst a stunning view of the Sierra Nevada you will enjoy demonstrations of lavendar recipes and remedies with delicious herbal hors d'oeuvres and tea-tastings, followed by a light, herb-inspired, organic, vegetarian lunch. A one-of-a-kind gift shop and organic, herb nursery adds to your visit.
The Squaw Valley Herb Gardens are located in the Sierra Nevada foothills near the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
