El Dorado County Historical Museum

The mission of the County Museum is to collect, preserve and interpret our local history. The Museum is packed with artifacts, documents, and photographs that belong to the history of the people of the county. Because the County Museum tells the story of El Dorado County through its unique collection of artifacts, it is like no other museum!
The Museum preserves and interprets the history starting with the Native Americans who lived in the area that is now known as El Dorado County. It continues with El Dorado County's history of the Gold Rush, the Logging Industry, Transportation, Commerce and Community, Railroads, and Agriculture.
Currently they County Museum is proud to present a temporary exhibit, "Quilts" On display are a dozen quilts, 1850-1900 from the Museum's Collection. This exhibit will be up March 15 - November 15, 2011.
Interested in exploring your past? The County Museum has a large Research Room devoted to the history of the people, places and events of El Dorado County. Genealogy, mining, historical photographs and historical maps are all available on Tuesdays and by appointment.

Hours Open: Wed - Sat, 10 AM - 4 PM, Sun 12 PM - 4 PM, Tues (research only) 9 AM - 3 PM

The County Museum is on one level with ADA accessible bathrooms.
The County Museum is devoted to preserving and interpreting artifacts from the county's past.
Only service animals are admitted inside the County Museum.
