Event Dates: July 01, 2012

Description of Event

Enjoy a parade? How about a classic car show, live music and entertainment, great food, vendors fire works and all sorts of other 4th of July celebration activities? Doesn't it sound fun?

If this appeals to you then you need to join us as we celebrate Modoc County’s biggest party and most premier event of the year “Fandango Days” hosted by the Alturas Chamber of Commerce.

There are thousands of of people who partake in this event. They come from all over, many of which are generations of families who come back with their families to be part of this festivity. A lot of folks celebrate class reunions on this weekend because so many folks return home. It's a great party.

The festivities commence on Friday night.  Engines start to rev up, getting everyone's motors going and ready to cruise down Main Street for the Classic Car Cruise. Cars ranging from the 1920s to modern day hot rods participate in the cruise. The evening wouldn't be complete without a street dance, some of the best music in the northeast fills the air with great tunes and energy. This generally takes place right after the cruise.

Saturday morning get ready for the biggest little parade in northeastern California, "The Fandango Days Parade". Everyone in Modoc County partakes in this parade, from Native dancers to the sheriff's posse, Garden club and Modoc High School cheerleaders. Even Smokey the Bear from the US Forest Service and all the other federal agencies gets in the act. It's truly a community affair.

After the parade join us at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Alturas for live music, vendors, food and entertainment, and all sorts of fun activities.

The "Grand Finale" of the day is spent at California Pines Lodge. There is a  barbeque, dance and other activities that take place Saturday afternoon. Then at dusk be blown away with a spectacular fireworks display to end the evening.
