Foothills Visitor Center Sequoia National Park

This should be your first stop when entering Sequoia National Park from the south entrance off of Highway 198. Located just one mile inside the park along the Generals Highway, the Foothills Visitor Center offers trip-planning / hiking information, exhibits, first aid, maps, books, nature-related gifts, and public restrooms. During the summer months, Crystal Cave tickets may be purchased at the visitor center. The center's free exhibit room provides displays on foothills ecology and human history.

The foothills area of Sequoia National Park offers hiking, picnicking, and camping. Free ranger-led programs may be available during the summer. The Headquarters for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, as well as wilderness backcountry permits, will be found in this area. Check in the visitor center for assistance.

Our trip through Sequoia and into Kings Canyon was our first with our 2 year old son. It was awe-inspiring as it always is. Our first stop was Potwisha campground where Ranger Marissa welcomed us and shared general information for our visit. Seeing some of the parks wonders through a child's eyes is priceless. We also camped in Azalea in Kings Canyon. The trees, hiking, waterfalls, and the whole park experience is what a visit to a national park should be all about. Thank you to everyone who works behind the scenes to make our visit truly enjoyable and a wonderful lifetime memory.
