Gold Cliff Mine

Part of the Gold Cliff Mine Adventure Trip.

Photo © Dave Bunnell

A historic gold mine established during California's Gold Rush, Gold Cliff Mine provides a spectacular geological journey underground. In its heyday, between 1899 and 1920, the Gold Cliff Mine reached a depth of about 2,000 feet beneath the surface and produced almost 6 tons of gold. This particular mine has been thoroughly researched and its history is a huge part of the tour, which combines fascinating information with exhilarating adventure.

Please Note: The precise location has not been given on the map. Directions are given after a reservation has been made for the Adventure Trip.

Recreational Opportunities

3-1/2 to 5 hour Adventure Trips are available to thoroughly explore this fascinating site and its historical use. Participants learn what it was like to be a hard rock miner in those early days, while climbing through several "stopes" using knotted hand lines, belay harnesses, ladders and a raft. This is a real hands on, get down and dirty, history lesson that cannot be gleaned from notebooks. It's not for the faint of heart either. Those with claustrophobia, a fear of heights, or physical problems should not attempt this challenging trip.

Seasons Accessible

Available daily, year round by appointment only by calling 866.762.2837.

Fees: 2010 fees: Adventure Trip $99.00
