Gold Lake Campground

Gold Lake Campground is located in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area in the Sierra Nevada approximately 9 miles southwest of Graegle, California. The Lakes Basin Recreation Area offers many special geographic assets to visitors including 20 small lakes, most of which are accessible by hiking trails.

Recreation opportunities at Gold Lake Campground are endless including fishing, boating, hunting, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking, hiking, backpacking, swimming, windsurfing, and nature study. In the winter, visitors can snowmobile, cross-country ski, and snowshoe.

The best season to visit is summer, however, it is also the busiest season. Although reservations are not required, they are recommended. 

The campground is equipped with 37 campsites with tables, fire rings, food lockers, and toilet facilities. Garbage services are provided, but there is no water.

Driving Directions

Take highway 89 southeast from Graegle, California for two miles. Proceed south on Gold Lake Highway for 10 miles to Gold Lake.

rocky dirt road through campground needs careful driving with standard clearance car. No hiking from campground but conveniently located to Lakes Basin for beautiful day hikes. Had a pleasant Labor Day weekend camping experience here
