Grass Roots began as a natural foods store in South Lake Tahoe in 1973. Not only is Grass Roots a store providing a wide variety of common and hard to find vitamins and supplements at reasonable prices, it also has an on-site bakery creating organic hand made breads, pizzas, and cookies. The daily pizzas and sandwiches are gobbled up quickly by locals and regular visitors. And, Mike the Baker's special ginger-raisin bread baked on Tuesdays, is gone by close that day.

No need to look for the "organic section" in the produce aisle, as it's all organic! The store also carries natural and cruelty-free beauty products, spices, and bulk-good items in dispensers, including rice, flour, raw sugar, barley, organic popcorn and granola.

Although the store is small and off the main highway, it is just a half block off the bicycle route, and makes a good stop for cyclists and hikers alike. It is worth the stop to find a well appointed community organic and health food store.

Winter Hours Monday through Saturday 9:00am-7:00pm Sundays 10:00am-6:00pm

The owners live by the mantra: Recycle, Reuse and Restore which is echoed by the employees and many of the customers.

Grass Roots has a large selection of bio degradable products. Styrofoam is never used.

Due to health department codes, only service dogs are allowed.
