Grizzly Century Bike Ride

Crisp autumn weather

Event Dates: October 01, 2011

About this Event

The 20th Anniversary Grizzly Century Bike Ride Celebration takes place on the first Saturday of October. The ride has a little bit for everyone, including a 26 mile ride around Bass Lake, a popular Central Sierra camping spot, and 100K and 100 mile rides on the spectacular Sierra Vista National Scenic Byway.

The Grizzly Century is one of the most popular century bicycle rides in California. People participate in the annual event because of the fantastic views of the Sierra Nevada back-country, sparse traffic, fir and pine forests, and the small town atmosphere with friendly local support on the road and at rest stops, which serve great food. The sushi, baklava, and Roz's cinnamon rolls are especially popular.

The Grizzly Century starts in the town of North Fork at about 2,500' elevation, and climbs as high as Cold Springs Summit at 7,000' before descending back to town passing around Bass Lake. Depending on the chosen route, riders experience some tough climbs along the foothills that meander through alpine vegetation.

Besides being a classic annual event for cyclists, the Grizzly Century donates all of its proceeds to the promotion of and improvement of the Sierra Vista National Scenic Byway and restoration projects for our mountain community.

The event begins at 6:30am with breakfast hosted by the Lion's Club. Riders are off the course by around 5:30pm in time to enjoy a barbecue hosted by the Sierra National Forest Service employees. Throughout the ride there are several rest stops with goodies and lunch provided. Riders receive a T-shirt and other items with their registration. Jerseys are also available.
