The Sierra Heritage Scenic Byway (Highway 168) is the main access to Huntington Lake. This route ties the Sierra Nevada with eight foothill and mountain communities, climbing from the San Joaquin Valley in Old Town Clovis to the 9,200-foot Kaiser Pass at White Bark Vista. There, one can view the Kaiser, Dinkey Lakes, Ansel Adams and John Muir Wilderness areas.

The byway route to Kaiser Pass is about 70 miles and round trip driving time is about four hours. Narrow, winding approach roads prohibit access by large motor homes and trailers beyond Huntington Lake. White Bark Vista is located along a rough, one-mile long dirt road off Kaiser Pass Road.

White Bark Vista features spectacular views of the Sierra Crest, Florence and Edison Lakes. While the access road is suitable only for high clearance vehicles, those traveling in passenger cars or vans may park near the beginning of the road and take a pleasant two-mile round-trip hike to the vista.

Recreational Opportunities

Located east of Huntington Lake is the Rancheria Falls National Recreation Trail. This one-mile long trail climbs gently to beautiful Rancheria Falls. Cool, shady fir forests and year-round falls make this an ideal summertime hike.

Other activities include boating, sailing and fishing. There are seven public campgrounds and several hiking and equestrian trails nearby.  Several trails provide access to the Kaiser Wilderness.

Seasons Accessible

Huntington Lake is a four-season destination via Highway 168. In addition to the many summer recreation activities available, there is a nearby Sno-Park for tubing and sledding or the China Peak Ski Resort for downhill skiing and and snowboarding during winter months.
