June Lake Triathlon

The swim

Event Dates: July 07, 2012

About this Event

Started officially on 7/7/2007, the June Lake Triathlon was conceived by a triathlete who saw June Lake as the most beautiful stage ever for a triathlon. Located in a beautifully scenic high alpine setting, the community of June Lake sits at 7,600 feet above sea level with breathtaking views of Carson Peak and the Sierra Nevada range surrounding the nestled cluster of high altitude lakes that include Grant, Silver, Gull and June.

The triathlon boasts crystal clear, clean water in a high alpine lake, a beautiful loop course on scenic roads circling the June Lake basin, and a mountainous trail run (my favorite kind) with majestic views of the surrounding mountain peaks. The event is held annually the weekend after the 4th of July.

Course descriptions:

  • Olympic Distance: 1.5K Swim, 40K Bike, 10K Run (ages 13 and up; Relay divisions available)
  • Sprint Distance: 400m Swim, 8Mi Bike, 2 Mi Run (ages 13 and up; Relay divisions available)
  • Kid's Mini Tri Distance: 100m Swim/ 2mile Bike/ 1mile Run (ages 6-12)

There is a Challenged Athletes courses for both Olympic and Sprint as well. Racer awards for overall place and age-group results are made by local artists, ceramic artists, photographers and painters.

The triathlon is a fundraiser for Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra, a non-profit organization affiliated with Mammoth Mountain Ski Area that provides sports programs year round for disabled athletes including ski lessons and a 'Wounded Warrior' program. Visit their website at www.DisabledSportsEasternSierra.org.

The triathlon is hosted and put on by High Sierra Triathlon Club, a non-profit organization founded to provide triathlon training and promote health and fitness in the High Sierra community. Visit their website at www.HighSierraTri.org
