Twelve pine-studded acres surround the 19 cottages and 8 hotel rooms at Kit Carson Lodge, which sits on the brink of Silver Lake in California's Amador County. Lacking telephones and TV's, the historic resort is an eclectic mix of classical music and dusty hiking trails, of wild mushroom crepes and fly-fishing workshops, of watercolor paintings and scenic swimming holes. This blend of elegance and rustic beauty is what has kept generations of guests returning since 1926.
