Lake Alpine Lodge is located on Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway, or Highway 4. With a brilliant expanse of untouched wilderness and Lake Alpine as its backyard, this vacation spot offers numerous recreational opportunities for the entire family.

The Lake Alpine area was originally named Silver Valley by the Murphy's Exploring Party of 1855 while searching for a route across the Sierras. Before that, the famous mountain man, Jedediah Smith, was said to have traveled through the area in 1827; and before that, the Miwok Indians spent summers at Lake Alpine hunting, fishing, and gathering pine nuts.

The Lodge at Lake Alpine Resort was built by B.R.Gianelli in 1927 and completed the following year as a three story building, but the lodge collapsed in heavy snowfall of 1932. Only the stone fireplace built by legendary hunter,  Monte Wolfe and a pile of rubble remained. The lodge was rebuilt to its present form and contains a restaurant, bar and general/gift store. The resort also offers cabin rentals and boat rentals with a caring staff that makes sure that your experience at Lake Alpine is fun and memorable.

Lake Alpine Resort contains the many wonders of the Sierra Nevada mountains in one location. Whether it is the sounds of leaves rustling in the breeze while a line is cast in anticipation of a catch or a vista that steals your breathe during an exhilarating hike. Lake Alpine Resort allows visitors to experience the Sierra Nevada Mountains from multiple perspectives, while providing a real break from the routine of everyday life. Also, remember your camera or perhaps a paint brush. Lake Alpine's spring season blooms bright with wildflowers, while summer brings sunny days, perfect for swimming, hiking and fishing. Fall marks the start of hunting season while welcoming a chromatic spectrum of red and gold terrain.

Aside from the amenities the Lake Alpine main lodge has to offer, Lake Alpine Resort also offers bedroom cabin rentals for overnight visits. Lake Alpine Resort, California Cabins are equipped for housekeeping with kitchens which include refrigerators, stoves, a basic set of pots and pans, dishes, toasters, coffee makers and microwave ovens and more.

Located in the Stanislaus National Forrest, Lake Alpine offers visitors an abundance of activities and adventures. You can backpack, hike, and bike the mountain wilderness or take a dip and cool off in the Lake. Visitors also have the opportunity to kayak, canoe and go fishing.

Boating:

Lake Alpine is truly a boating paradise with the scenic reservoir at an elevation of 7350 feet and covering 180 acres at a depth of 40 feet. Next to Lake Alpine Resort’s private boat dock is a public boat launching ramp, that is handicap- accessible, for those who bring their own boats. No fee is required for launching a boat at the U.S. Forest Service launch ramp.

Swimming:

Visitors can swim from either of two small sandy beaches near the boat dock. Many enjoy swimming out to the granite rock islands in the lake. This is a fun way to spend the day.

Fishing:

Lake Alpine is a premier fishing destination with a mixture of wild holdover and rainbow trout planted regularly from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends.A speed limit of 10 mph is in effect on Lake Alpine. The lake is a favorite of anglers fishing from float tubes, canoes and kayaks. Motor boats, rowboats, canoes and kayaks are available for rental from the Resort.

Hiking:

From crystal clear lakes and streams to spectacular vistas, nature's wonder awaits hikers and outdoor lovers at Lake Alpine. Stanislaus National Forest hiking trails can range from short, easy day hikes to the more difficult backpacking adventures.

Trail maps for this area are found on Emigrant Wilderness topographic map, or Carson-Iceberg Wilderness topographic map, available at most US Forest Offices.

Backpacking:

The wilderness offers some excellent backpacking opportunities. A wilderness permit is needed for overnight camping and are offered free of charge at all Stanislaus National Forest offices.

Rock Climbing:

There are many granite outcrops and boulder fields offering unlimited rock climbing opportunities.

Stargazing:

On a clear night the skies are an astronomers dream; filled with the brightest stars lighting up the western skies. Bring your telescope and feast on the constellations, galaxies, moon, planets and multitude of stars. Lake Alpine is about as close to heaven as you can get!
