Welcome to the Lake. While you’re here, we invite you to join with us to keep Tahoe pet safe, and pet friendly. Together we can "Keep Tahoe Kind".

If you are traveling with your pet, the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and S.P.C.A. is your source for information about wilderness safety, pet friendly beaches, and local pet activities in the Greater Lake Tahoe Basin. We’ll let you know what’s going on at local dog social areas like the Regan Beach Dog Water Play area and the always bustling Bijou Dog Park. If children are with you, check out our summer adventure camp sessions. If there’s a rainy day or other lull in your activity, come to the drop in library reading program featuring kid friendly, sometimes goofy Tahoe canine listeners accompanied by reading tutors.

Accomplishments

Open six days a week from 10:30am to 4:00pm, stop by our Education and Resource Center at 1221 Emerald Bay Road at the “Y” in South Lake Tahoe. Pick up our original Pet Travel and Emergency Preparedness Kit. It’s free and includes the popular “Keep Tahoe Kind!” sticker souvenir. Over 5,000 pet safety kits have been distributed. Pet First Aid fanny packs with 17 most needed items are available for sale at a nominal cost. Should there be a local emergency while you’re here, our local Disaster Animal Response Team of volunteers is at the ready to provide information, pet food, supplies and temporary sheltering for your pet in partnership with the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

How to Support

Tahoe pets depend on Tahoe people. Serving Tahoe animals, residents and visitors from around the world for over 40 years, the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and S.P.C.A. is an independent, local nonprofit organization. There is no national humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals to help with local needs.

If you can help support our programs and our year around community charitable services, please call (530) 542-2857.  We’ll tell you about current needs. We are a 501(3)(c) public charity. Tax deductible financial donations in any amount are much appreciated and can be mailed to: Lake Tahoe Humane Society and S.P.C.A., P.O. Box PET, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96158.
