Some say you have to be there to feel it. The Lake Tahoe Music Festival, founded in 1982, is one of those events combining the spectacular scenery of the Sierra with live music. Established by Edgar Braun, conductor of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, the Festival has grown in scope yearly with the dedication and involvement of many local residents and businesses. With its scenic venues capturing the spirit of the Sierra, over 12,000 expected attendees and the diverse programming of each concert season, the Lake Tahoe Music Festival remains the largest summer cultural event benefiting the local communities and a major attraction throughout the West.
From blues to Bach and beyond, the Lake Tahoe Music Festival combines scintillating sounds with the beauty of the Sierra Nevada and Lake Tahoe all underneath a blanket of stars. The annual festival brings together exciting contemporary artists and orchestral sounds with artists that have included Dave Koz, Huey Lewis and The News, Tony Award-winner Debbie Gravitte and Boz Scaggs. The festival's concert series is highlighted with performances by the Orchestra Academy, a unique educational residency program bridging the gap between college music studies and a career in music. Musicians live ans study in Lake Tahoe for 10 days and perform at festival concerts. Concerts, which begin at 7 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the festival dates, continue until approximately 10 p.m. each night.
The non-profit festival's concert series supports the ongoing Eudcation Outreach Programs (EOP)which enhance music education opportunities for students in the Tahoe and Truckee region. The EOP brings music to youth grades 3 - 5 with the Tahoe Truckee Youth Music Program, provides scholarhips and extended learning opportunities to middle school and high school level musicians and also includes the Orchestra Academy.
