Lassen Pines RV Resort is located on what is called Lassen Bench, a geological "finger" that protrudes half way up Big Valley Mountain, affording views of all the mountains from Mt. Ashland to the north, past Mt. Shasta to the west to Mt. Lassen to the south. This quiet rural area is located in the intermountain area where three counties meet - Lassen, Shasta and Modoc in the Northern Sierra Nevada range.
The campground is shaded by pine, oaks and juniper trees. All wildlife and birds are free to roam the 68 acres which is left in a natural condition. The roads are gravel and the sites are separated by 50 year old split rail fencing recycled from the Duncan Ranch in Big Valley. All of the campsites are level and shady. As this campground is located on a county road, it is a quiet getaway from the noise and light pollution of the city. The night sky is full of stars and the Milky Way.
Lassen Pines RV Resort is conveniently located for visiting many geotourism sites in this intermountain area which is a birder's paradise. Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park, a place of brilliant aqua bays and tree studded islets that dot the shoreline of Horr Pond and Ja She Creek is accessed by a road in McArthur but reached only by boat at this time. McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park is famous for the 129 foot falls that provides wonderful shots for photographers of all skill levels. Ash Creek Wildlife Reserve, covers more than 14,100 acres. About 3,000 acres are natural wetlands that are fed by the flow of seasonal streams which provides habitat for a variety of wildlife. Through the grassy marshes you can see large, long-legged Sand Hill Cranes, rarely seen in wildlife and Bald Eagles soaring through the clear blue skies. Some of the wildlife viewed in Big Valley includes geese, hawks, mule deer, antelope, quail, sage grouse, owls, and coyotes. See osphrey dive for fish right before your eyes at Baum Lake.
