Located in the northwest corner of Lassen Volcanic National Park, Manzanita Lake offers visitors a wide variety of summer and winter activities including camping, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, Nordic skiing, and snowshoeing.                 

During the summer season, the Manzanita Lake Camper Store includes amenities and the fixings for a picnic, camping supplies, and souvenirs. Information and interpretive programs are offered at the Loomis Museum, including the 20 minute park film, The Story Behind the Landscape.

Lots of outdoor activities can be found at Manzanita Lake including non-motorized boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, camping, and nature watching in the park. Kayak and cabin rentals are also available.  Be sure to take advantage of the breathtaking views from nearby hiking trails and don’t forget to take advantage of the summer ranger-led programs. Winter activities include snow play, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, and backcountry skiing. Please note motorized equipment, such as snowmobiles, are not allowed in Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Manzanita Lake Trail:

This easy 1.5 mile trail winds gently around Manzanita Lake and is an ideal choice for families or others unable to hike on difficult terrain. The trail can be picked up at any point including a spur trail from Loomis Museum and the Manzanita Lake picnic area. 

Well shaded by looming Jeffrey pines and bordered by lush willows, this trail offers a welcomed respite from the heat of the day. As the trail wanders along the shoreline numerous openings offer hikers an opportunity to spot ducks, geese and the occasional muskrat and beaver. The surrounding forest also offers birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts opportunities to catch glimpses of woodpeckers and deer. The trail is perhaps best known for its spectacular views of Lassen Peak and Chaos Crags which are best viewed in the morning.

Lassen Volcanic National Park is open year-round. However, the Loomis Museum and Manzanita Lake Camper Store are open seasonally from Memorial Day weekend through the end of October. The main park road closes at the Manzanita Lake entrance after the first significant snowfall and does not reopen again until road clearing is complete which usually occurs in late-June.

Fees: There is a $10.00 entrance fee to Lassen Volcanic National Park

Accessible facilities include the Loomis Museum and nearby restrooms, Manzanita Lake Camper Store and restrooms, and selected camping cabins.

Pets are permitted only on established roadways, campgrounds, picnic areas and other developed areas and must be on a leash six feet or less at all time. Pets are not permitted on trails, boardwalks, in the backcountry, or in any body of water.
