If you are looking to expand your technical knowledge and expertise of your favorite mountain sports, then look no further than Mountain Adventure Seminars (MAS), a year-round mountaineering school and guide service based in Bear Valley, California. MAS is owned and operated by Aaron and Kimi Johnson and is a reflection of their love for the outdoors and enthusiasm for playing, sharing and educating in "wild places" since 1996.

The town of Bear Valley, located on Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway, or Highway 4, creates an intimate setting. This private location ensures that guests, not only have space, but the opportunity to enjoy the seminars as part of a unique environment whose scenic beauty transforms with the seasons. Get to know the people, the terrain, the vistas and the pristine wilderness special to this region of the country.

MAS operates a wide range of programs. Rock climbing is the emphasis during the summer. Winter storms signal the beginning of the annual Telemark ski school, avalanche education, and back country ski/snowboard and snowshoe adventures. As Spring approaches and days are longer, the mountaineering programs begin and last from early spring to mid-summer at which time the rock climbing programs are already back in full swing.  Mountain Adventure Seminars wide selection of classes as well as their knowledgeable and helpful instructors creates an atmosphere allowing you to explore a favorite activity or discover a new hobby. There are programs available for all age groups so save a date and bring your friends and family for a one of a kind educational experience.

MAS Mission Statement:

  • To provide exceptional mountaineering instruction and finely crafted adventures which offer an opportunity for retreat and renewal.
  • To create a community where relationships are based on integrity, cooperation and trust; where work is sustainable, meaningful and rewarding and personal growth is encouraged through learning and communication.
  • To nurture an appreciation for wild places and develop a sense of stewardship for our surroundings.
  • To lead by example.
