We are a group of seven women and men who make the handmade crafts on display at Mountain Harvest Crafts, a petite boutique along the River Walk  at 200 Main Street, Basement Suite, Downieville, California.  Handmade items include quilts, hand-turned wooden bowls, wall hangings, jewelry, special holiday items, clothing, baby bibs, soap, pillows, scarves and more. We also offer Juanita dolls representing the unfortunate young woman who was hanged in Downieville on the 5th of July, 1851, and remembered as the only woman ever hung in California.

Because we love our small town Downieville, it is the scene most often embroidered or painted on many of our gift items.  Downieville is a beautiful small town in the gold country of the Northern Sierra Nevada mountains along Highway 49 next to the Yuba River. Mountain Harvest Crafts is currently located in a lighted basement of a historic, vintage building which also houses antique, wine and western Americana shops. Come by for a visit and see how we are preserving our pioneer heritage through our crafts.  If we are not open when you come by, there are telephone numbers posted for all the artists.  Please call one of the numbers listed, and we'll be happy to open the shop for you.

The Mountain Harvest founders met as members of the Mountain Star Quilters, and banded together to provide an outlet for their various hand-work skills.  Some prefer quilting, others knit or crochet.  Our gifts range from very practical pot holders to more whimsical fabric flowers.  We attend classes, subscribe to sewing/quilting periodicals to keep up-to-date with the latest trends, while honoring our commitment to provide unique, one-of-a kind hand made items.  We keep our prices competitive.  Our intent is to have enough at the end of the month to buy more fabric and wood.

We continue to involve ourselves in the activities of the Mountain Star Quilters, and each of us attempt to have at least three items for display in the Fall Colors Quilt Show held the first weekend of October during odd-numbered years.  In even-numbered years, we take classes offered at a quilting retreat sponsored by the Mountain Star Quilters on that first weekend of October. Information on the quilt show and retreat is always available through Mountain Harvest Crafts, or by visiting www.mountainstarquilters.org.
