Built originally in 1942 under the name James Lakeshore Resort, the original resort of cabins still exists on the north side of Highway 28. It has long been a destination for North Tahoe visitors seeking beach access. The road side cabin served as a highway weigh station in the 40's and 50's and has served as the resort's ice cream shop for almost 30 years. The lake front property has been a draw as one of the best beach front lodging and lake recreation options in the region for more than 50 years. The original buildings on this side were constructed preceding the 1960 Winter Olympics and hosted distinguished guests during that season.
Renamed Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort in 1978, the lakeside buildings were rebuilt from 1996 through 2001 making the resort one of the newest lake front resorts in Lake Tahoe and continues to draw families and get-away couples seeking a true Lake Tahoe lake front experience. The sandy beach is shallow, perfect for small families. The resort features two outdoor hut tubs, fire pit, chase chairs, umbrellas and tables on the beach, picnic tables, BBQ area and numerous sports equipment including beach volleyball, sand bocci ball, a fire pit, hammock, kayaks, bicycles and concierge motor boat service. Surrounding the resort are numerous recreational and dining options including an 18 hole Frisbee golf course, the Old Brockway Golf Course and trail head access to the Tahoe Rim Trail, too name a few.

The Mourelatos family bought the property in 1978 and have run the resort since.
