Event Dates: August 10, 2011 - August 14, 2011

Description of Event

Each year, more than 95,000 people visit the annual Nevada County Fair at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in beautiful Grass Valley. The Nevada County Fair, held at this location since 1947, has been voted “Nevada County’s Best Event” for 10 years in a row (by readers of The Union Newspaper), and has been rated as one of the top 10 Rural Fairs in America by the Los Angeles Times.

This community-favorite event, held each year in August, features live entertainment, carnival rides and games, barns full of livestock, exhibits, special contests, nightly arena events, daily demonstrations, gold panning, and food contests.

It is here that you’ll also find historical exhibits that represent our community’s rich history; local artisans; thousands of exhibits from our talented community; local youth featuring their livestock; our signature “Gold Path” – a flower-lined path at the entrance of the Fairgrounds; and Treat Street, which is comprised solely of community non-profit organizations serving an array of delicious local food.

The Nevada County Fairgrounds, designated as "California's Most Beautiful Fairgrounds," has been recognized by the California Heritage Council with an Award of Achievement and Recognition for historic preservation. Established in 1938, the Fairgrounds was recognized for its 100 acres of natural beauty, expansive green lawns, hundreds of tall pine trees, its small town sense of historic community, and for the many community events that attract people from all over the country to historic Nevada County.

In addition to the Fair, the Fairgrounds is in use year-round, hosting events more than 200 days of the year. In addition, it functions as a park where people come to walk their dogs, ride bikes, picnic and jog; hosts a year-round campground; maintains a lake for fishing; and functions as a rallying point for various agencies during natural disasters.

Admission Fee (if any): $8 adult admission; $6 senior admission; $3 children 6- 12; free to children under the age of 5.
