Overland Meat and Seafood Company

Owner, Brian Cohen

Voted “Best of Tahoe” by locals, Overland Meat and Seafood Company is a phenomenal place to find fresh fish and custom cuts of meat. Overland features all natural meat with no hormone implants, no antibiotics, and no animal by-products. Poultry is free-range and organic, and seafood is wild-caught, never farmed.

Their beef is purchased from Country Natural Beef, a cooperative of sustainable family ranches throughout the West. Free-range and organic poultry comes from Petaluma Poultry and Diestel Turkey Ranch, family owned and operated in the Sierra foothills since 1949. All natural, minimally processed lamb is from Superior Farms, family owned in the Sacramento Valley since 1963. Overland is the only place in Tahoe carrying wild King Salmon and fresh sashimi-grade Ahi tuna. Fresh fish is flown in overnight from Hawaii every Friday. Line up with the locals to see what’s in this week’s catch.

Owner Brian Cohen makes a house chorizo and free-range beef jerky. Chef Hilario prepares authentic pork Chili Verde, beef Chili Colorado and shrimp Ceviche. Overland also features homemade crab patties, fresh Ahi tuna sushi rolls, Chicken Cordon Bleu, and a variety of specialty sausages. Overland will gladly custom cook for you any meat product they sell.

Overland offers the largest selection of Sierra Nevada foothill wines in South Lake Tahoe. Their regional wines include varietals from Calaveras, Amador, El Dorado and Nevada Counties. You'll also find a nice selection of sauces, rubs, cheeses and many other side dishes to go along with your meal. This is a one-stop shop to gather premium ingredients for a fantastic dinner.

Located just off the bicycle route adjacent to Hwy. 50, Overland is the perfect place to find a great cut of meat or seafood to cook over your campfire at one of Tahoe’s beautiful campgrounds or in one of the lakeview cabins at nearby Camp Richardson Resort.

Hours Open

Locally or Family Owned Business Notes

Mark Cohen opened his first meat market, BriMar Meats, in Southern California in 1976. Later, he moved the family to Big Bear Lake and opened a market there. Mark loved the mountains but the town was too small to support his business, so they relocated to Apple Valley, California, where he opened the first Overland Meats in 1987. However, the mountains called to him, so he sold his meat market and moved to Tahoe, where the current Overland Meat Company opened in November of 1987. In June of 2005, Mark retired to Washington state to be near his grandchildren, and turned the business over to his son, Brian.

Throughout the years, Brian Cohen had worked with his dad in the family markets, but left for a job with Raley's Supermarkets in 1990, where he gained experience in all aspects of the business. After five years, Brian transferred to the meat department, where the extensive training he received provided valuable insights into how his family's business could be improved. Since taking over the operation of Overland Meat & Seafood Company in 2005, Brian has been able to implement many of these ideas, and has committed himself to providing his customers with the highest quality, all natural, hormone and antibiotic-free meats, poultry and seafood available.
