Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation

Martin Luther King Mural Project

The Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation was founded in 1996 to serve the Lake Tahoe community by promoting philanthropy and non-profit collaboration. The Foundation exists not to support a single organization, but to address the broadest range of charitable issues by building a perpetual source of community capital. The Foundation manages charitable funds for individuals, families, businesses and organizations that turn to the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation to help fulfill their philanthropic intent.

To donors, the Foundation represents an effective and innovative giving vehicle, one that combines maximum tax savings with the opportunity to make a difference – forever – for those in the Tahoe Region.

To non-profits, the Foundation addresses community needs through grants along with operating the Donald W. Reynolds Non-Profit Center. It increases the capacity and effectiveness of organizations and improves the quality of life in the region.

To the community, the Foundation provides leadership in the Lake Tahoe Basin as an effective, independent arena for addressing difficult issues and advocating for needed programs, services or policies.

Accomplishments

The Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation has granted over $30 million to charitable causes at Lake Tahoe since 1996.

In a recent benchmark study released in June by CF Insights, Benchmarking Beyond Asset Size, the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation was listed as the #1 community foundation in the United States for most gifts per capita during 2009 - once again confirming the generosity of our local community.

How to Support

There are many ways to become involved with Parasol! Come to one of the many seminars hosted throughout the summer about financial planning topics. Parasol also participates in many community-wide events that you can volunteer at, as well as many exciting events that are held in the Donald W. Reynolds Non-Profit Center (DWR) year-round on topics such as the school district, health care forum, dental screenings and a spectrum of other topics. Information about these events is updated on our website www.parasol.org. You can also stop by the DWR Center and volunteer with many of the non-profits that are housed in the building.
