Poso Guard Station Cabin-Giant Sequoia National Monument

Poso Guard Station Cabin-Giant Sequoia National Monument

Poso Guard Station Cabin offers visitors cabin-camping with a view of towering pines and oaks in the southern Sierra Nevada.  This historical cabin is located near the town of Posey, and is only an hour drive from Bakersfield or Porterville.  At an elevation of approximately 4,480 feet, it provides clear skies and solitude for recreational visitors.

The cabin was constructed in 1933 to provide residence for Forest Service Personnel stationed in the area.  In the 1980s the cabin was abandoned and remained that way, until recently. The cabin offers all the comforts of home, including electricity. It also features amenities such as a fully equipped kitchen, and bathroom with a tub-shower and flush toilet.

Nearby points of interest include the Tobias Fire Lookout and the Trail of 100 Giants.  Both are within an hour from the cabin, and only open during the summertime. Nearby summer activities include hiking, fishing, bicycling, sightseeing, and horseback riding.  Summertime stargazing allows visitors to view the constellations Cygnus, Lyra and Aquila, as well as Ursa Minor and Ursa Major.

Winter activities that are within an hour from the cabin include Alta Sierra Ski Resort which allows visitors to enjoy all of their favorite winter sports, and groomed roads for snowmobiles, weather permitting.  Stargazing in the winter allows visitors to view the constellations Pegasus, Cetus and Perseus, as well as Ursa Minor And Ursa Major.

What truly makes this historic cabin unique is the unobstructed 360 degree views it provides of the San Joaquin Delta, Greenhorn Mountains, and Tobias Peak.  One of the favorite pastimes reported by visitors are the beautiful sunsets over the San Joaquin Valley.
