Princess Campground is located in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Sequoia National Forest. The campground has a large number of huge, old Sequoia tree stumps left over from extensive logging in the early 1900s. Surrounding the stumps are young Sequoia trees and a pleasant variety of conifers. Some campsites have a view of a large, lush meadow complete with wild flowers in the spring.

Princess Campground lies in the middle of Indian Basin Grove beside Indian Basin Meadow and Creek. Campfire talks and guided hikes occur most weekends.The campground hosts provide campers with details about what is offered each week, and fliers are posted on bulletin boards     

Indian Basin Grove Interpretive Trail is located inside the Princess Campground. At the turn of the century, the grove was privately owned and all mature sequoias and other species were removed between 1901 and 1907. The engineering feats at the time were amazing. The Sanger Lumber Company hauled the trees by cable railways west over Converse Mountain and down the backside of the mountain by water chute to the historic Converse Mill operated by Logging Camp 2.

Beginning in 1935 this area was sold to the federal government. At that time many of the stumps became part of dedrochonology studies. The grove is accessible by the Indian Basin Interpretive Trail which consists of a ½ mile, paved loop accessible to persons with disabilities, and an additional 1/2 mile extension loop through the grove and meadow area. Almost all the trees in this grove were removed in the late 1800s. The massive stumps are silent reminders of the beauty this grove offered, and tells a compelling story about ancient times This grove also provides opportunities to study how rapid young sequoias grow.

Princess is an excellent location for day trips to Hume Lake which is located 3 miles away. Hume Lake has excellent trout fishing, stores, food and fuel. Also close by are Boyden Caverns, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Giant Sequoia National Monument, and General Grant Grove. Seeing the huge cedars and huge Sequoias throughout the whole area is a wonderful treat for everyone in the family.

From Fresno go east take Kings Canyon Scenic Byway (State Highway 180) or General's Highway (State Highway 198) to Grant Grove in Kings Canyon National Park. Continue north on Highway 180 about 5 miles to the sign for Princess Campground.

All toilets are vault, and all waste is pumped and hauled away. No hazardous chemicals used in cleaning. All of the trees are protected by staff and Forest Service. Paper used in every day use is recycled paper.
