Prison Hill is 2,450 acres of dedicated open space, natural land that is visible from anywhere in Carson City, Nevada. The Prison Hill Recreation Area is a 400 acre section of the wilderness that can be accessed from the Silver Saddle Ranch or Golden Eagle Lane. The terrain features the very best in diversity of Northern Nevada, with rocks, trails, cliffs, steep inclines, sloping valleys, and as always, lots of hearty desert flora. The massive land area features many examples of local minerals, animals and vegetation, as well as the occasional collection of historical and prehistorical artifacts from the days predating Nevada's statehood.

Recreational Opportunities

The park's northern end is for non-motorized traffic only. Visitors are welcome to explore on foot, hourseback, or bicycle. The challenging terrain makes for a perfect environment for trail running and the popular "Escape from Prison Hill" half marathon makes good use of the variety of terrain the park has to offer.

The souther end of the park is open to recreational vehicle traffic on marked trails and terrain. The entire park provides great opportunities for photography and geology, as well as being a great place to get a view of the Carson Valley and the Pine Nut range. Rock climbing, picnics, and exploring are other popular activities.
