Rainbow Orchards is a family farm that prides itself in producing quality fruits and fruit products since 1977. Dedicated to legacy farming, this fifth generation El Dorado farming family grows blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, figs, peaches, nectarines, pears, apples, winter squash, and pumpkins on over 300 acres in the Sierra Nevada foothills. A member of the Apple Hill Growers Association, Rainbow Orchards welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors during harvest season to enjoy the bountiful fruits of our labors and share the beauty of our farm and our rural lifestyle.

Activities at this Site

Visitors to Rainbow Orchards enjoy home style baked goods from the bake shop that makes everything from scratch including the world famous APPLE CIDER DONUTS! Other favorites are peach and berry cobblers, apple, peach, and berry pies, apple crisps, and a variety of homemade jams, syrups, butters, and vinegars. Visitors sample fresh, unfiltered, unpasteurized apple cider from the on-site cider mill and are offered tastings of freshly picked fruits. During the harvest celebration visitors listen to bluegrass music in the orchard, shop for handmade crafts on the green, and enjoy outdoor barbecue with local ingredients.

Throughout the year, Rainbow Orchards donates the venue to host several annual events to benefit local charities including Teddy Bears' Picnic, a children's old fashioned carnival that benefits Family Connections El Dorado; Art in the Orchard, a collaboration with the El Dorado Arts Council to promote the partnership of agriculture and art in El Dorado County; and Evening in the Orchard, a dinner featuring all local foods and wines cosponsored by the Camino/Pollock Pines Rotary to raise funding for area school projects.

 Eco-Friendly Notes

Management practices are ecologically friendly. The family at Rainbow Orchards works with UC Davis' Integrated Pest Management Program for minimal impact on the environment, and is also in the process of converting several orchards to organic practices. Rainbow Orchards works with the El Dorado Irrigation District in a premier water conservation program and belongs to the local watershed coalition to monitor ground water. All "wastes" from the bake shop, cider mill, packing shed, and orchard pruning and grasses are composted. Any unused product is donated to the El Dorado County Food Bank. Rainbow Orchards in partnership with Waste Connections has fostered a recycling program to encourage both ranch owners and visitors to the area to recycle plastics, paper, and glass used on the ranches.

Cultivating appreciation of stewardship of the land, Rainbow Orchards founded "Fields of Learning", an educational field trip for first grade students. Students visit the orchard four times a year--once a season--adopt an apple tree, learn to cultivate it, and pick the apples at harvest time. This model developed at Rainbow Orchards is promoted by El Dorado Ag in the classroom as a template for environmental awareness for students in all agricultural regions of California.
