River Ridge Ranch

River Ridge Ranch is one of the earliest settled sites in Springville. Evidence of the Foothill Yokuts tribe abounds on the ranch in the form of bedrock mortars, milling stations and artifacts. We carefully protect and conserve these historical sites. The ranch was homesteaded in the mid-1800s and has been a working cattle ranch since the early 1900s when it was acquired by the Negus family. We purchased it from them in 1998 in order to prevent a residential subdivision that was planned along the river. Our Conservation Easement with Sequoia Riverlands Trust prevents that from ever happening and since 2000 it has been open to the public. Our family lives nearby in Springville and everyone pitches in to make it work.
Our property includes 722 acres on the North Fork Tule River, adjacent to 1,000,000 acres of the Giant Sequoia National Monument ; we are only two miles from the historic town of Springville, California. We are a working cattle ranch as well as a nature preserve and we specialize in hosting weddings and other special events.
We have a variety of programs designed to protect, preserve and improve our place. These include restoration, replanting with native vegetation, wildlife habitat improvement, prevention of soil erosion and improvement of water quality. The local community assists us in a variety of ways. Thousands of school children have visited River Ridge free-of-charge for outdoor education and each year we also donate the ranch to Camp Country Jamboree- a sleepover activity program for children with cancer.
