Riverside Inn, Downieville

We are located at the fork of the Downie and Yuba rivers. We have balconies over the Downie River so you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine, cup of coffee, or your meal. Leave your door open and drift off to sleep with the sound of the river. Fishing, gold panning, mountain biking, hiking, and bird watching are enjoyed during summer. We have snow shoes if you want to tramp around in the snow.

Downieville is at the bottom of a river canyon in the Tahoe National Forest and the Sierra Nevada range. Although we are at 2,865 feet elevation, we are surrounded by the mountains on all sides (at the bottom, remember). Downieville is the county seat of Sierra County.

The Riverside was built in 1947 and opened in the spring of 1948. Although that may be historic in some places, Downieville has many buildings dating back to the Gold Rush.

In addition, we rent Mini Pearl, so called because it is the smallest house on Pearl Street.

Bed and Breakfast Style

We have a large living area that we use for the expanded continental breakfast. We serve wild smoked salmon and bagels, freshly ground coffee, tea, cocoa, juice, blueberry bread, Danish, and fruit. This area is available for meetings also and watching a sporting event. We have outdoor seating and barbecue areas along with propane grills. We also have a basketball hoop and gold pans for use as well as snow shoes for winter. We have DVDs, cards, and games available for quiet evenings.

Our interiors are all knotty pine paneling, with handmade quilts and bed-skirts. Most people say, "Oh, my parents (grandparents) had paneling like this." Half the rooms have a kitchen, another four have a refrigerator/microwave.

Comments

One of my favorites and one of the most genuine and cozy hotels in the USA (and I’ve traveled the continent for more than 25 years).
