Cascading from a high alpine valley in the John Muir Wilderness, Rock Creek Canyon offers 20 miles of gorgeous creek-side setting and numerous lakes for year-round recreation. For the fisherman, Rock Creek Canyon is well known for its brown, rainbow, and golden trout found in the surrounding streams and lakes.

Little Lakes Basin includes a string of high-elevation lakes linked together by leisurely hiking trails surrounded by 13,000 foot peaks including Bear Creek Spires. Hiking in the Little Lakes Valley is a classic Sierra experience where 13,000 foot granite peaks surround the glacially-carved canyon.

Summer activities in the canyon include hiking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and lakefront and stream side camping.  Lodging, general stores and food services are offered at two resorts including Rock Creek Lodge which operates as a cross-country ski lodge during the winter.  Rock Creek Lodge offers 15 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails surrounded by endless touring, telemark, or randonée ski terrain. For well over half a century, winter at Rock Creek Lodge has been the local's secret. A place of intense beauty, vast wilderness, and pure solitude, not to mention, home to some of the driest snow in the Sierra Nevada. With the combination of spectacular terrain, and a fun, relaxed atmosphere, individuals, families, and couples alike are sure to experience the magic that's been drawing skiers since the pre-eminent Sierra mountaineer Norman Clyde, became the canyon's first winter resident nearly 80 years ago.

Lower Rock Creek continues its rush to the Owens Valley alongside the old highway 395, where the Rock Creek Trail is accessible to hikers and mountain bikers much of the year.

Lower Rock Creek is a technical single-track that is similar to Sand Canyon in that the terrain is extremely variable, particularly in the lower portion of the ride.  The ride begins just below Hwy 395's junction with Lower Rock Creek Road.  An obvious parking area is present near the trailhead and a sign exists marking the beginning of the ride.  The sign is not visible from the road, however.  Drop another car at Paradise for pickup.

Rock Creek Canyon is located off of Highway 395 in the eastern Sierra Nevada.
