Ruby Inn

Ruby Inn is located in Bridgeport, California and is a gem situated on the eastern slopes of the High Sierra. Bridgeport’s serene valley is the perfect stop-over for many points of interest. Yosemite Village, Yosemite National Park, Reno Nevada, Lake Tahoe and Sonora, California are all within a 2-hour drive. The only eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park is 38 miles. Mono Lake, a salt lake 3 times saltier than the ocean, is located 25 miles from Bridgeport, and has many fascinating geological features. The ghost town of Bodie, a non-commercialized state park, is 20 miles away. Numerous lakes and streams in the Bridgeport area offer excellent trout fishing, including Twin Lakes where the state records for rainbow trout have been caught. Bridgeport is the county seat of Mono County, and its 1880 courthouse is the second oldest still in operation in California. Other attractions include an interesting museum, beautiful fall color, and many good areas for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.

Ruby Inn, a totally non-smoking 30-room 1-2 story motel, is situated on Bridgeport's Main Street, which is US Hwy 395. Within walking distance you will find a number of good restaurants, the Bridgeport Museum and courthouse, our community park, and a number of interesting shops and historic homes and buildings. A copy of "Walking Tour of Historic Bridgeport" can be picked up at the front desk.

After a busy day of travel, sightseeing, hiking or fishing, you can relax in our 15-person hot tub, eat a picnic meal at our gas grill/barbecue area, and browse the internet with your laptop/phone or the guest computer in our lobby.

Construction of the Ruby Inn began in the late 1950s by Walter Cain, a grandson of Bodie's James Stuart Cain who is described by Mono County Historical Society as the one "who, more than anyone else, stood by the town through good and bad times for almost sixty years and was the one most responsible for its ultimate preservation." The Cains dubbed their lodging establishment The Westerner Motel. John and Ruby Swanson bought the business, which was later renamed in honor of Ruby, from the Cain family in May of 1975. Their daughter's family, Steve and Mary Noble and sons, are the current owners.

Ruby Inn is an owner-operated property that takes pride in providing personal, caring service that continues after guests are handed their key. The Ruby Inn housekeeping staff is very dedicated to providing quality service as evidenced by attention to cleanliness and detail. Pet Friendly Notes

Pets welcome, must be attended at all times, grassy fenced pet area, advance notification required (some rooms are pet-free).

The staff and management of The Ruby Inn set an impossibly high standard for other hotels and motels to follow. Yes, it’s a modest and unpretentious property. But, the professionalism, hospitality, and quality are very impressive. This is probably the best place you’ll find between Carson City and Mammoth Lakes.
