Sentinel Dome is a granite dome located within Yosemite National Park. The view from the top offers a 360 degree view of Yosemite Valley and surroundings. One can see Half Dome, El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, North Dome and more.
The hike to the top of Sentinel Dome is an easy 2.2 miles. The trailhead is the same as the Taft Point trailhead, located 6 miles from Bridalveil Creek on the Glacier Point Road. The trailhead is 3,500 feet higher than Yosemite Valley. Elevation of the Dome is 8,122 feet.
The best time to visit is in the afternoon before a full moon. Stay for the experience of watching the sunset and then the full moon rise. Bring a picnic to enjoy on top while waiting for the moonrise.
Glacier Point Road is closed in winter. Late spring through fall is a good time to visit, with early to late fall being the best time to visit.
Fees: Fees to enter Yosemite National Park apply.
