Sierra Bounty is a non-profit (501c3 status pending) organization leading the way in promoting grassroots efforts to enhance the ecological, social, and economic sustainability of local agriculture in the Eastern Sierra region of California.
Sierra Bounty is committed to strengthening the local food system and reducing petroleum-based food transportation and fertilizer use. In our first year of operation, we have launched our Access to Healthy Food program, delivering food from local farmers directly to consumers.
Sierra Bounty is currently run entirely by volunteers. From harvesting produce for the Access to Healthy Food program, to helping out on the farms, we have a team of committed volunteers working to make a strong local foods economy in the Eastern Sierra possible. Through and with our volunteers we seek to promote awareness about issues of food, access, hunger, and agriculture in the Eastern Sierra. In the 2010-2011 season, volunteers will be enlisted in the installation, planting, harvesting, and maintenance of the Mountain Fresh Farm greenhouse (described below) and on Sierra Bounty’s five other partner farms. Sierra Bounty will also mentor motivated individuals to design and implement their own projects in support of local agriculture in the Eastern Sierra.
