Help preserve our legendary back country trails with Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship!  Volunteer to restore and build trails in the Sierra Buttes, a spectacular granite outcropping at the northern end of the Sierra Nevada range.

We host a variety of fun work days including our monthly Trail Daze where volunteers gather for 5 to 6 hours to restore a selected trail and enjoy a BBQ. Or join a Mountain Epic which includes meals, camping, group led rides, hiking, and usually a few special treats (Epics are free to members). We also host the Downieville Classic, our biggest fundraiser and one of the West Coast's biggest Mountain Biking tournaments, where you can volunteer to restore trails prior to the event or work during the actual tournament/festival.

Formed in 2003, the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (SBTS) is a volunteer driven non-profit whose primary goal is the maintenance and enhancement of the trail systems in Plumas and Sierra Counties. Every summer, thousands of people come here to hike the magnificent landscape, fish, swim and boat in the pristine alpine lakes, ride horses, mountain bikes, and motorcycles on hundreds of miles of trails that were once used to haul ore and logs. Help us care for our trails so the Sierra Buttes can provide enjoyable back country access for everyone, for decades to come.

Since 2003, SBTS has donated over 30,000 hours of volunteer labor to both the Plumas and Tahoe National Forests to help maintain over 30 trails, including the creation of 25 miles of new trails. While these trails see over 200,000 users per year, they continue to maintain a level “A” standing due to all the hard work of SBTS staff and volunteers. 

Give back to the trails!  Volunteering is fun and rewarding. SBTS volunteer opportunities range from building and maintaining trail, helping out at our many special events (opportunities are endless), and yep, even office help.
