Sorensen's Resort

Sorensen's Resort

Tucked away on the eastern edge of spectacular Hope Valley just south of Lake Tahoe, Sorensen's Resort is an ideal home base for recreation and relaxation all year long. This historic settlement offers cozy housekeeping cottages, log cabins, and mountain home vacation rentals providing a range of charming accommodations. Enjoy fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, bicycling or just unwind in a hammock with your favorite book.

Sample the amenities of a small resort that include a full-service restaurant, a wood-fired sauna, and 165-beautiful acres of pine and aspen forest to play in. Fishing is a favorite pastime on the West Fork Carson River meandering through high mountain meadows located right across from the resort. And, Sorensen's prime location in Hope Valley makes it easy to get to Kirkwood Mountain Resort and Grover Hot Springs State Park.

It is also the perfect spot for small weddings and conferences, making Sorensen's Resort your home-away-from-home when visiting the Sierra Nevada.

Lodging Style and Amenities

Choose from cozy bed-and-breakfast cottages to fully outfitted log cabins and contemporary mountain homes. All are situated on the edge of Hope Valley, an incomparable scenic alpine setting ringed by aspens and criss-crossed by trout-filled rivers. All lodging units are individual housekeeping cabins, with daily service available upon request. Guests have access to the resort's facilities, ranging from hammocks swinging under the trees, to a children's catch-and-release trout pond, to our excellent Country Café.

Driving Directions

Sorensen's elevation at 7,000 feet, is located in California's serene Hope Valley, a pristine pocket of the Sierra, 20 miles south of Lake Tahoe. The resort lies one mile east of the intersection of Highways 88 and 89. We are approximately 4 hours east of San Francisco, 2 hours from Sacramento and 1-1/4 hours from Reno, Nevada.

 Eco-Friendly Notes

Most of the cabins feature kitchens and the resort uses biodegradable dish soap and cleaning products. It also uses energy saving light bulbs in the cabins, front porches, and also the all-season lights that decorate the resort all year. The resort offers Gilbert & Soames bath products featuring their BeeKind collection. This product includes environmentally responsible packaging and an all-organic, skin-friendly formula. Proceeds of net sales go to support honeybee and sustainable pollination research at the University of California, Davis.

In addition, the resort just joined the Clean the World program. This non-profit organization collects used soaps and shampoos from the hospitality industry and redistributes them to impoverished people worldwide, helping to prevent millions of hygiene-related deaths and illnesses every day.

Finally, over the last nearly 30 years of owning Sorensen's, the resort owners have helped to fund environmental programs throughout the state, nation and internationally. In addition to this monetary support, they give over 300 nights lodging donations to many organizations helping to support the environment, health, kids, education, women...and more.

Sorensen's was also awarded the Conde Nast Magazine's Eco-Tourism Award in 1998.
