South Lake Trailhead/John Muir Wilderness

Just beyond South Lake is the expansive, spectacular John  Muir Wilderness.

This trail-head provides access to the John Muir Wilderness, the Pacific Crest Trail, and eventually Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Trails skirt high-country lakes and streams.

The trail-head is located at the edge of the paved road and parking lot just past South Lake. A wilderness permit is required for overnight travel.
