Spooner Lake Cross Country

March 2011 was an incredible year for Lake Tahoe and cross country skiing at Spooner Lake!

Spooner Lake Cross Country Ski Area offers fun for people of all ages and ability levels. The area contains over 80 kilometers of superbly groomed cross country ski trails with outstanding views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada, and some of the prettiest beginner trails at Tahoe.

The trails around Spooner Lake and Spooner Meadow wind through beautiful aspen groves and along scenic creeks. With only moderate changes in elevation, these trails are perfect for all levels of skier. Trails gradually increase in difficulty to the black diamond trails near Marlette Lake, where you are treated to outstanding vistas of Lake Tahoe and the Washoe Valley in Nevada.

Spooner Lake Cross Country offers trail passes, ski and snowshoe rentals, lessons and a day lodge with fireplace and snacks for purchase. And for those wanting the ultimate back country experience, you can spend the night in one of the cozy wilderness cabins, accessible only by skis or snowshoes.

The two wilderness cabins are beautiful hand hewn Scandinavian style log buildings. The Wild Cat cabin is 3 km from the lodge and has a view of Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay. The Spooner Lake Cabin is 1 km away from the lodge above the north side of Spooner Lake.

Spooner Lake Cross Country Ski Area is owned and operated under special permit of the Nevada State Parks and the USFS by outdoor experts Max Jones and Patti McMullan.
