Sustainable Forest Management Tour

Join us for a day of lessons learned through sustainable logging. We'll begin the tour at the Collins Pine Museum. Here we'll learn the Collins' philosophy on harvesting and logging and review the historical significance of the Chester/ Lake Almanor region. Then we'll tour the state of the art sawmill, renovated in the early 2000s but which has remained open since 1943. In addition, we will tour the Park 40 Interpretive Trail located along the PCT. While enjoying lunch under the shade of the tall trees, we'll learn how Park 40 remains as a historical logging forest to demonstrate how we can harvest and manage an area while sustaining ecosystem health and abundance. After a 1mile hike around Park 40 we'll head back to the museum and review the day.
