Learn about legends, facts, history, shopping and dining tips on this easy 1 mile guided walk through Tahoe City. Developed by the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society, tours are lead by professionally trained, knowledgeable local volunteers who are passionate about history and Tahoe City. Lake Tahoe’s colorful history will unfold in fun stories and legends about the people who have called Lake Tahoe home. After the tour, visitors will have a better appreciation about their pristine surroundings as well as knowledge about the best places to eat, shop, and enjoy Tahoe City.

The tour includes many different aspects of Tahoe City life, both past and present. Native American legends and history are discussed, including stories on how the lake was formed and information about both the Washoe and Paiute Indian Tribes. Learn about ghosts, famous visitors and colorful residents. Historic industries such as fishing, lumber, ice harvesting, and hay harvesting are explained.

The tour is not all about history and points of interest though. Find out where to find a great bottle of wine and where to pick up a picnic lunch. You can also learn about the best ways to experience the lake, either on the water or on the incredible array of trails that surround magnificent Lake Tahoe.

This fun tour is great for visitors and locals alike. Locals will learn tidbits they never knew before. Visitors will have a better understanding of our beautiful surroundings and will have the tools to find out more.

The Tahoe City Historic Guided Walking Tour takes place every Saturday from Memorial Day to Labor Day at 10AM. The tour starts at the Visitor Information Center in Tahoe City and ends at the Gatekeeper's Museum. The tour is approximately 1 mile long and lasts 1.5 hours. Although the walk is easy, it includes a few stairs and a short downhill grade. Public restrooms are available at several locations along the walk. Free public parking is available at both the beginning and at the end of the tour. The tour is FREE, and donations to the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society are appreciated. The tour includes entry to the Gatekeeper's Museum and 10% off purchases in the Museum Store.

This tour is unique and authentic because there is no other vehicle or place where history, legends, tourist information, facts, and stories are presented in one compact package. No other guided walking tours exist in the area.
