The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley is a cultural and educational organization that promotes and presents the literary, visual and performing arts for the enrichment of the community by providing a venue for artists to exhibit and perform.

A building that began as a Chevrolet dealership in the 1960s has transformed into a cultural gem for the Gold Rush town of Grass Valley. More than 10 years ago a group of community members pooled their resources to renovate the 21,000 square foot building at 314 W. Main Street in downtown into an intimate 300-seat main theater and a smaller Off Center black box theater that now attracts more than 125,000 people to events each year.

From the beginning, the organization has showcased talented local artists and performers who live in the Sierra Foothills. In fact the first ever live broadcast on the internet was filmed at The Center in 1998 featuring Nevada County resident Roger Hodgson, formerly of Supertramp.

Today, the Center features a diverse range of programming, including dance, theatre, music, literary workshops and free gallery space for local artists. Performances of note include Grammy award winning performers Kris Kristofferson, The Kingston Trio, Smothers Brothers, along with great regional musicians such as Ivan Najera.
