The Trading Post Dinner House

The Trading Post Dinner House was established in 1927 as a diner, bar, post office and store.  It served the community of Shaver Lake during the building of the dam and the prosperous logging community.  This building has been maintained with historical photos and artifacts, cedar bark siding, sugar pine bar and quartzite fireplace.

Currently, the Trading Post serves some of the finest food and most generous portions in the area including New York steak, Filet Mignon and its world famous calamari steaks. It is owned and operated by the Elming family and their efficient staff of the cutest waitresses around.  In the summer there is also outdoor seating in the beautiful courtyard among the pines and the relaxing waterfall. Come to the Trading Post Dinner House and explore the history of Shaver Lake.  Owner, Steve Elming, can answer a lot of questions about the history of the building and the area.

ADA Accessibility Notes

There are two steps leading to the front door as this building was built in 1927 and is still mostly original. Customers in wheelchairs are allowed to enter through the side door and out through the waitress area.

Pet Friendly Notes

This is a restaurant and pets are not allowed into the dining area per Fresno county restrictions.

This is by far the best steak house in California. All the others you have visited and heard about don’t even begin to compare to the excellent food, service and ambiance. A trip to Shaver Lake is not complete unless you stop in for dinner, or visit the bar.

Every time the meals are consistently good and generously portioned. The staff is always so cheerful and extremely efficient. One of my guilty pleasures is the Calamari Steak and as much as I wish I could have a variety of dishes, I always seem to be drawn to the Calamari....just the best I have ever had!
